Giving something back to the community

Staff Community Fund

The Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund started in 1917 and is Australia's longest-running employee contribution program. Each year it contributes over a million dollars to support children's causes across Australia.

At a local level, we provide grants to support organisations committed to improving the health and well-being of children in their communities. Nationally, our people get behind Make a Kid's Day and National Smile Day through internal fundraising activities, and maintain a principal partnership with the Humour Foundation's Clown Doctors.

Perhaps our most innovative sponsorship is our support for Midnight Basketball, where we give under-privileged children in high-risk areas somewhere safe to play sport, as well as access to life-skills workshops tackling issues such as drug and alcohol use, anger management, and job searching.

Commonwealth Bank Foundation

Financial literacy is an essential life skill, and the Commonwealth Bank Foundation is committed to promoting financial literacy amongst Australian children.

The Foundation supports a diverse range of educational programs, many of which were developed in collaboration with education groups, teaching associations and other authorities from across the country.

Among these programs is the Student Banking Program, introduced by the Bank in 1931 to teach young people the basic skills of money management and encouraging them to save.

Through this, and other initiatives, the Foundation seeks to empower young Australians to approach their financial future with confidence.

The Commonwealth Bank has supported the Australian of the Year Awards since their inception, which celebrate the achievements of those people who make us proud to be Australians.

The Australian of the Year Awards have grown to become one of our country's highest honours. Using our extensive branch network and online presence, we call on people from all Australian communities to nominate the people that they believe most embody the Australian spirit.
